Agrigento
Wonderfully positioned on a slope that rolls down to the sea, Agrigento and its Valley of Temples are an absolute must on the list of classic itineraries (about 2 hours by car from Taormina).
Ten odd temples stand out on the green hill where the ancient Greek city of Akragas was built in 580 BC and these include the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Jupiter and the Temple of Juno.
All are in perfect condition and can be easily visited by following various routes around what is to all effects and purposes a park steeped in atmosphere.
The house of Pirandello, the father of modern Italian drama, can be found just a few kilometres away.
